PrestaShop exceeds 40.000 online stores in Spain and is consolidated as an eCommerce engine

The sector of eCommerce it advances at full speed in Spain. It is expected that in this year 2015, sales of Spanish online stores they break a new record, surpassing 15.000 million euros in turnover and the prospects for 2016 are even better.

Online sales in Spain are consolidated

According to the latest report from the National Markets and Competition Commission, online sales in Spain totaled 11.575 million euros in the first three quarters of 2015. If the same trend continues in the fourth quarter, this year the Spanish eCommerce will overcome the barrier of 15.000 million euros, a new record after the 14.610 million euros in 2014. In 2016, Spanish online stores will invoice 24.700 million euros, which represents an increase of 40%, according to the forecasts of The Boston Consulting Group.

By the end of 2015, 67% of Spaniards will have bought on the Internet at least once in their life, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB). The average online spending in Spain stands at 658 euros per year, still far from the 1.117 euros in France, 1.350 euros in Germany or 1.549 euros in the United Kingdom according to RetailMeNot data. Despite this, Spanish eCommerce will have grown by 18% in 2015 according to the IAB, a rate higher than that of other leading European markets such as France (17%) or England (16,2%).

The same study indicates that Spaniards buy on the Internet mainly for savings (86%), comfort (78%), trust or recommendation (68%), or because what they are looking for is only available online (63%).

More than 40.000 PrestaShop stores in Spain

In Spain there are already more than 40.000 online stores based on PrestaShop, data that consolidates it as the most used open source e-commerce solution in this country.

Its evolution has been spectacular. PrestaShop arrived in Spain in 2012 and in the first year it already reached 10.000 online stores. At the end of 2013 it was present in more than 20.000 eCommerce and in the last year it has doubled its implementation to reach 40.000 stores.

Madrid leads the national ranking of PrestaShop stores in Spain with a total of 5.986 electronic stores that use this solution in that province. It is followed closely by Barcelona, ​​with 5.610 stores and at a distance are Valencia (2.765), Alicante (1.977) and Seville (1.656).

Bertrand Amaraggi, Country Manager for Spain, explains the reasons for the success of PrestaShop in Spain: “Spain is one of the markets with the greatest projection in Europe from a digital point of view.
