 Pilot projects

Santander, Florence, Novi Sady and the West Midlands have been the cities chosen for the first pilot experiences of the project, which will be carried out by the multinational consulting and technology company Indra leads the consortium of 15 companies and public bodies that, organized into four national groups from Spain, Italy, United Kingdom and Serbia.

MobiWallet will have the participation of hundreds of users in each pilot city and will collect and analyze their comments to ensure that the application of technological solutions is well founded on the real needs of citizens and that the solutions provided achieve maximum impact, in such a way that they give rise to the transport systems of the future.

Indra also coordinates the Spanish group formed by Banco Santander, the University of Cantabria, the Santander City Council and the technological SME TST. The Italian pilot is run by Intecs, with the support of Aleph, GEST and the Florence City Council. The British group is led by CENTRO with the collaboration of TTR. Lastly, the Serbian pilot is run by DunavNet, in partnership with JGSP Novi Sad and the city of Novi Sad.

In the case of the pilot project in Santander, Indra will lead its development, which will deploy a single payment system for the different transport services: bus, public bicycle, taxi and private ferry service (Pedreñeras) in the city. The solution will include specific payment and use services for citizens with disabilities or reduced mobility.

Cutting edge technologies

MobiWallet will validate a wide range of technologies to define the criteria for creating a mobile transportation payment solution ideal, scalable and adaptable, so that it can meet the needs of public administrations, both in small urban and industrial areas and in more complex metropolitan scenarios and even in extremely heterogeneous operating environments.

Thanks to the use of labels and other elements with NFC technology (Near Field Communication), this pioneering project will enable any smartphone with an Internet connection to become a payment terminal at minimal cost. These labels or smart cards, with their corresponding online infrastructure and contactless readers, allow the system to be endowed with much greater functionality and intelligence than any currently existing unified payment solution.

The use of 2D two-dimensional barcodes Together with an augmented reality interface, it will represent another solution with minimal cost, but which will allow the citizen to offer innovative value-added services. Finally, a payment web portal will make the developed solution more versatile, since it will facilitate access and payment to any user without the need for a state-of-the-art smartphone, simply through an Internet connection.

The project will also develop and test different platforms for the collection and administration of interoperable payments, based on standards for the management of interoperable rates (IFM), such as ISO 24014 and EN 15320, so that the developments carried out in each case in the solution finally proposed.
