Half of the Spanish stores will celebrate Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday with offers and discounts

According to a survey of PrestaShop leader in Spain in e-commerce solutions based on free software, the Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday they continue to gain followers in Spain, to the point that the following of these commercial celebrations doubles that of countries such as France and Italy.

In fact, more than 50% of the Spanish stores consulted will carry out commercial actions on Black Friday, the day of pre-Christmas discounts that this year is celebrated on Friday, November 27. In addition, more than 40% will do so on Cyber ​​Monday, the day when the discounts are transferred to the Internet and that will be on Monday, November 30. 

Black Friday is more popular in Spain than Cyber ​​Monday

The survey confirms that Black Friday is more popular than Cyber ​​Monday in Spain. While 56,4% of Spanish stores plan to make special offers on Black Friday.

27,9% still do not know it and 15,7% do not have any special action planned for that day, 41,4% of the businesses consulted plan to offer special discounts on Cyber ​​Monday, 18,2% do not contemplate and 40,4% have not yet decided.

Among the stores that are not going to celebrate Black Friday, 45,8% will not do so because they do not consider it an important day in Spain. 43,8% because they do not have time and prefer to focus on the upcoming Christmas season and 10,4% because they do not know what it consists of. Although the popularity of Cyber ​​Monday is lower, the reasons why Spanish stores do not celebrate it are similar: lack of relevance (47,3%), lack of time (30,9%) or ignorance (21,8%) .

There is a third celebration on the same weekend called Small Business Saturday. It is a day of offers in small businesses that since 2010 has been held on the Saturday after Black Friday, this year on November 28. However, Small Business Saturday is much less known in Spain: 92,7% of those surveyed do not know what it is.

 Black Friday, a celebration on the rise since 2011

In Spain, the celebration of Black Friday has not stopped spreading in recent years, to the point that Spanish commerce is above other neighboring countries in terms of monitoring Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday, according to the survey by PrestaShop.

While in Spain these two events will have an estimated participation of 48,9%, in Italy the planned follow-up is 26,5% and in France they barely reach 21%. For many Spanish stores, the last weekend of November marks the start of the Christmas campaign and the discounts on Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday encourage the first sales. The most common commercial actions on the occasion of these celebrations are discounts on the entire catalog (31%), offers on some products (25%), free shipping costs (16%), bonuses for future purchases (6%) and launch of products and special services for those dates (5%), according to the Spanish Association of Digital Economy (Adigital).

"Everything indicates that this year Black Friday and Cyber ​​Monday are going to have great success in Spain", says Bertrand Amaraggi, Country Manager for Spain at PrestaShop, a leader in open source e-commerce platforms; 40.000 online stores created in our country carry their technology. “The results of our survey indicate that a greater number of merchants will join these celebrations, so we anticipate that the last weekend of November will be spectacular in terms of sales. Especially in electronic commerce, which this year may break a new turnover record in Spain ", concludes.

The survey was conducted between October 27 and November 13, 2015 via the Internet in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States. In Spain the sample includes 324 stores. The surveyed stores belong mainly to the textile sector (16,4%), childcare (9,6%), health and beauty (8%), articles for the home and garden (8%) and jewelry and accessories (7,1% )
