En Mexico, e-commerce is growing at a particularly fast rate. Digital shoppers have increased significantly and B2C ecommerce sales They are on track to reach record numbers in Mexico, positioning it as the second largest market in Latin America.
For these reasons, many companies are beginning their international e-commerce initiatives by focusing on the Mexican market.
Retail e-commerce
- Mexico had $ 4.4 billion in e-commerce retail sales in 2014 and sales are projected to reach $ 13.3 billion by 2019.
- E-commerce retail sales grew 32% from 2013 to 2014, with a projected growth rate to decrease to 20% between 2018 and 2019.
- Online sales accounted for only 1.2% of total retail sales in 2014, but 3% is a realistic projection for 2019.
Digital shoppers
- There are currently 14.3 million digital buyers in Mexico (12% of the population) and the number of buyers is expected to increase substantially in 2019 (23.6 million).
- Mexico currently has the lowest percentage of digital shoppers among the major Latin American countries, with only 22% of its internet users currently shopping online.
- The number of digital shoppers increased 24% from 2013 to 2014, the highest percentage increase of any major country in Latin America.
